My Name is Jiiniikwe. I am a Native
American musician who has recorded music since 2007. I am enrolled
Anishinabe, however, I have lived among the Oglala Lakota in South Dakota for 32 years. I reside back and forth from north to the south to bring the stories of Native understanding and education. As a young Native girl in Michigan, I had many
influences in music and the arts, such as the Beatles & Motown. I had piano, art & dance lessons growing up. I compose my own music and lyrics & play all instruments, including keyboards, synthesizer's, strings & drums. My awards include a nomination for the North American Indigenous Image Awards for Rock Music 2011 in NM, In 2016 and 2019 I received a bronze and silver medal from the Global Music Awards. My music also was included in Native American Music awards album in 2016 for the free album Water Is Life II. I was a Native American Music Awards Nominee for 2017, 2018 and 2019.
My music was also included in the book "Mni Wiconi" by John Willis and Published in 2020. I am a international/national painter,
published writer. I like to use
music as an venue to express culture and issues concerning Native
people.
